The 2x6 run

Today I rode what I call the "2x6". Why 2x6? Because the route goes around 2 lakes and through 6 counties, about 250 miles total. The weather was wonderful, we topped out at 58, light wind, and lots of sun. Now Kansas isn't blessed with mountains, twisties or any other natural wonders, but it does have a flatland beauty all it's own. Right now things are just starting to green up and the spring colors aren't quite in full swing yet. Just being able to spend some quality time in the saddle today was well overdue therapy.
The quality of the pics isn't the best, I'm taking them with my Blackberry. If I can't figure out how to make it take decent pics, I'll have to go back to my trusty digi-cam, lol!

The north end of Tuttle Creek Lake. That's what's known locally as "the mile long bridge". I have no idea if it's actually a mile long or not, but it's long for around here lol!

Catching up

It's been a couple weeks so I figure it's time to get off my lazy behind and update things, lol! It hasn't been quite warm enough to get alot of miles in, but we did get some traveling in. The week before last we went to Gulfport Ms and spent almost a full week with my youngest son who is stationed in the Navy there. He deploys to Spain next week so it'll be a while before we see him again. My first impression of Mississippi wasn't necessarily a good one. As we traveled south from Memphis the one thing that stuck out was the amount of trash in the ditches long the highway. Mississippi is a beautiful state, but obviously some just don't care, it's too bad. I love the weather there, one evening we were enjoying seafood and beer on the beach it was almost 70 degrees, at that same moment it was snowing in Kansas, lol!

Jayson decided that since he was deploying I needed to be in the modern world so we could communicate easier. I now have a Blackberry. I have cussed these things for a long time and to me they are known as Crackberrys, everyone I know that has one would rather spend time with their Crackberry than a live person. I have given so many people shit about these things and about how they would rather be with their Crackberry than a live person, now I have one. Yes, I'm getting a lot of shit over it, lol! I must admit, I like it, it's a very good traveling tool. Anything from using it's GPS and mapping capabilities, to using it's web capabilities, it makes traveling and finding things while traveling a breeze. One very cool app I started using is Pandora, with it you can set up your own internet radio station based on what you like. Just type in the name of an artist you like and Pandora puts together a playlist of similar artists, very cool app.

On to some pics from our trip, sorry about the quality, I used my Crackberry to take them, lol -

Yesterday we finally had a decent day for riding so my oldest son James and I took advantage of it and got some miles in. Here's a couple poser shots taken at a local fishing lake.

More miles!!

What a great way to end a beautiful weekend, an awesome 300+ mile day!! It didn't quite make it into the 60's but it did make it into the mid 50's and sunny, works for me! This was a completely solo run, no passenger, no other scoot's, just me and my sporty. One thing I've noticed in the short time I've owned a HD is that complete strangers that own HD's will come up and just start a conversation with you. Example, today I was riding through Florence, Ks., not much there, but a typical, run-down, mid-west cafe. The kind of mom & pop place I like to eat at so I stopped. The cafe did not disappoint, very run down, but clean where it counts, bottomless pot of coffee, and the food was outstanding. As I was finishing my meal another gentleman next to me at the counter says "Great day for a ride." and the conversation began. Turns out he was a Marine in Vietnam, spent some time riding bulls in rodeos, got his 1st HD in '72, and he was out on his sporty today. We spent the better part of an hour swapping stories and when it was time to go we shared the road for a few miles before we went our separate ways. Two people met as strangers and left as friends. I spent the last 100 miles of my run in virtual solitude, just me and the sporty covering the miles. Here's some random pics from todays ride.

Miles...

Sorry, no pics for this one, that'll have to wait till after tomorrow's run, lol! This has been the 1st real weekend of riding for me this year. The weather(so far) has been simply gorgeous, if not for the wind, this would've been the perfect spring weekend. Partly cloudy, highs in the upper 50's(it hit 62 today!) with a little wind. The first real good weekend of riding my sporty and getting to know her. So far we've logged about 400 miles of local back roads and a little super-slab, there's no real twisties around here, but there are some real cool sweepers if you know where to look. Nothing we rode phased her, she took everything in stride and asked for more. The sporty's acceleration suprises me every time, she is quick! Suprisingly enough, with as quick as she is I would expect higher speeds to suffer a little, not the case. On our trip on the super-slab today I found the sweet spot right at 80 mph. She just settles in there and purrs along effortlessly, I love the gearing of the sportster!

Todays ride turned into a special one for me. I had already planned on just over 200 miles this afternoon, but the bonus for me was that plans unexpectedly changed and I was able to share that ride with my oldest son James. Even though he's still living at home while he finished college(graduates in 2 months)we rarely get to see each other. Between our work schedule, his college schedule, and his time with his girlfriend, we don't get to spend alot of time together, let alone ride. Things just happened to work out and he could ride today! Now being a college student on very little income he doesn't have a bike, but I've got 2, lol!! I rode my sporty, he rode my Vulcan 900, and we put in just over 200 miles. I couldn't have asked for a better day and riding home into a sunset, just my son and I on 2 bikes riding along a deserted country highway. Priceless.

Ride safe!!

Cabin fever!!

Cabin fever, yup, I got it bad, lol! The weatherman is saying this will be an awesome weekend with highs around 60 today, tomorrow, and Sunday. So I got an early start this morning, my oldest son decided to document the "fever"-

After last weekends ride through some melting areas I decided I needed to wash my Harley for a nice long weekend of riding. About 9am I rolled her out in the driveway and went to work, thing is it was about 38 degrees so everyone decided I was nuts, tell me something I didn't already know, lol! Well, it's time to put some miles on!!

Ride safe!!
